The Ego

According To Freud, the Unconscious mind is made up of 3 parts,

The ID, The EGO and The SUPEREGO

In terms of procrastination and motivation, the ego plays a key role in managing these dynamics. While the ID might drive us towards immediate pleasures like watching TV or browsing social media instead of studying, the EGO evaluates the consequences and guides us toward choices that align with our academic goals.

This is one of the reasons it is important to have goals, it makes it easier for the EGO to do its job. Meanwhile, the SUPEREGO introduces a sense of morality and duty, adding pressure to do the “right” thing. This can be both a curse and a blessing depending on the ability of the EGO to balance.

A well-functioning EGO helps manage procrastination by setting priorities, planning effectively, and maintaining motivation, even when distractions or internal conflicts arise.
