ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)
ADHD is a term used to describe individuals who have difficulties with attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. It can affect both children and adults.
These challenges can significantly impact academic performance and daily tasks, making focused study and exam preparation particularly difficult.
Common Signs of ADHD:
- Short attention span and easy distractibility
- Making careless mistakes in tasks like schoolwork or homework
- Difficulty concentrating, listening, or following instructions
- Frequently forgetting things or losing personal items
- Struggling to complete repetitive or boring tasks
- Constantly shifting from one activity to another without finishing
- Trouble with organization, including managing study schedules, household chores, or other responsibilities
- Easily becoming bored
- Difficulty sitting still, especially in quiet settings
- Challenges with maintaining focus
- Hyperactivity – excessive physical movement or fidgeting
- Talking excessively or interrupting others
- Acting on impulse without considering consequences
- Reduced awareness of danger, leading to risky behaviors
ADHD can be divided into 3 types
Predominantly Inattentive Presentation: Involves mainly attention and focus difficulties, such as trouble staying organized, following instructions, and completing tasks.
Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Presentation: Characterized by impulsive actions and excessive physical activity, resulting in difficulties sitting still, waiting for turns, or pausing to think before acting.
Combined Presentation: Includes symptoms of both inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity. The exact causes of ADHD are not fully understood, but it is thought to involve genetic, environmental, and neurological factors.
Diagnosis typically requires a comprehensive evaluation by a qualified professional, such as a psychologist, psychiatrist, or pediatrician, who will assess the individual’s history, behavior, and symptoms.
